Standards – Kim Whaley

Kim Whaley is a mixed-media artist and native of Troy, Alabama. Whaley’s work predominantly consists of blends of charcoal and paint, though the media are often used in less-traditional methods. Her pieces are a delicate balance of form and negative space. Of her work, Whaley says “Generally, my pieces have a single, detailed focus in composition with less important details surrounding it, which I feel encourages meditation on the emotion evoked by the piece.”

Whaley received a B.A. in Studio Art from Troy University. Her work has been shown in multiple galleries, including The Nature Gallery in Dothan, AL, and in the 14th Annual Regional Juried Art Exhibition at the Ann Rudd Art Center in Ozark, AL. Whaley has won several awards for her miniseries Three Petals, which is the origin of evolution for Standards. Whaley currently lives Ozark, AL as a full time fine artist and part time art teacher.

The exhibition will be on display in the Coleman Gallery from October 16th through December 23rd 2015.
